Musicals Editorial Review

Il Barbiere Di Siviglia Il Barbiere Di Siviglia is a captivating opera production that showcases the talent of the cast and delivers an overall enjoyable experience. The standout performance comes from Juan Diego Flórez, whose tenor singing and handling of the difficult final aria is truly remarkable. He captivates the audience with his pure and flexible high register. The sets and design of the opera are excellent, creating a visually appealing backdrop for the performances. However, some reviewers note that the staging of the production, including the presence of numerous extras and excessive movement on stage, can be distracting and overwhelming at times. This may detract from the overall enjoyment of the opera for some viewers. María Bayo Jiménez, though displaying impressive vocal dexterity, receives mixed reviews as Rosina. Some find her voice too light and dry for the role, suggesting that a contralto or mezzo would have been a better fit. On the other hand, Bruno Pratico's portrayal of Dr. Bartolo is praised for his baritone voice and enjoyable performance, although some feel that his characterization could have been more sinister if not for the costume choices. Despite minor criticisms, the overall reception of Il Barbiere Di Siviglia is highly positive. The cast is lauded for their perfect voices that suit the characters, and the orchestra delivers a top-quality musical performance. Additionally, the bonus DVD provides valuable insights into the production, featuring discussions with the cast and behind-the-scenes footage. In conclusion, Il Barbiere Di Siviglia impresses with its exceptional performances, stunning sets, and overall high-quality production. With Juan Diego Flórez's standout tenor singing, this opera is a must-see for fans of the genre.
