The Derwent Charcoal Mixed Media pack of 8 pencils is a great product that is reasonably priced. It gives excellent results for both drawing and gray washes, making it perfect for simulating details. The pencils are easy to use and of great quality, making them suitable for use in art instruction. However, the packaging needs to be improved to ensure that the pencils arrive intact as they are expensive. The wood encased pencils are okay, but the graphitone pencils tend to break easily. These pencils dissolve well when watercolor is applied over them, making them a better solution for under drawings compared to regular graphite. The only issue is that the color may darken if painting something very light-colored.
