The PoE hat for Raspberry Pi provides convenience and flexibility for those who prefer a minimalistic approach to managing their equipment. Some customers had issues with fitting it into their cases, but it was mostly resolved with the eleduino metal case. There is no formal CAD model, but it generally fits snugly inside of the Pi. While the small size of the PoE hat is a plus for flexibility, the isolated professional version is recommended to avoid any risks of accidental damage or fire. With the isolated professional version, you'll get 3KV isolation in case your switch side ports are not independently isolated. There have been a few reports of issues with non-isolated versions shorting or even frying the board.Additionally, there is a slight temperature issue with the non-official PoE hat. Customers found that the normal idle temps were around 60C, which is nearly 20C hotter than the official Raspberry Pi PoE hat. This could be mitigated by using a case fan or by removing the other heat sinks, but it would not be advisable to do so during normal use. The official hat runs at 40C idle and did not even reach 60C during stress testing.
