The Broan BP87 Vertical Discharge Damper is an essential accessory for ducted range hoods. The damper is designed to prevent air from coming back inside the house after cooking. It is not air-tight, so it won't stop cold air from coming into the house. The product is made of metal without any plastic parts. The damper is easy to install with the help of UL-approved duct tape. The product has been improved by adding foam for quieter installation. The damper prevents hot air from entering the house through the exhaust fan vent pipe. While the product does not come with the hood, some Broan models include the damper but will be at a higher price. Overall, customers seem satisfied with their purchase. One customer complained that the damper was cheaply made, and there were gaps in the flaps that allowed air to flow back into the house. But most customers had no issues installing the damper and found it to be well made with anti-noise foam.
